Military Helicopter Crashes in Tamil Nadu Today News LIVE Updates
A day after the horrific chopper crash in Tamil Nadu’s Katteri-Nanchappanchathram area that killed CDS Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 other officers, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is briefing both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha today. Tributes have been pouring in from all over the world for India’s first Chief of Defence Staff. On Thursday morning, the team of experts from the Indian Air Force successfully managed to locate and retrieve the Flight Recorder of Black Box of the Mi-17 helicopter. The black box holds the key to the final moments of what exactly happened seconds before the chopper crashed in the hills of Katteri. On his way to deliver a lecture at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, Gen Rawat’s demise was confirmed by the Indian Air Force on Wednesday evening.
The Indian Air Force said that the helicopter carrying Gen Rawat, appointed as CDS in 2019, and his entourage crashed in apparently foggy conditions, killing the 13 people on board.
One person survived the crash and is being treated at a hospital. The mortal remains of the victims will be taken to New Delhi from Coimbatore on Thursday by air, after a wreath-laying ceremony scheduled at Wellington, police and defence sources said. Official sources say that the accident happened due to low visibility in the fog-hit region.
